Yandex

Yandex (a combination of “”Ya”” for the Russian letter “”I”” and “”Ndex”” for Index) is Russia’s most popular search engine which holds onto about 60+% market share in Russia for Search Engines, and also has a stronghold in Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Turkey.

Google is still a major stakeholder in the Russia market, but if you are marketing in Russia, you should optimize for Yandex first, Google second. Yandex has several SEO requirements that differ from other search engines. MatrixNet is Yandex’s page priority algorithm (similar to PageRank). MatrixNet measures site popularity and the sum and relevancy of backlinks to determine a thematic index citation (TIC) score.

Yandex’s index is re-calculated a few times a month for static pages, and several times per day for blog posts, whereas Google constantly crawls and indexes content. Yandex has grown over the years and it offers many services which are similar to the ones that Google offers, and all of Yandex services conveniently collected on one page: https://yandex.ru/all.

Here are some of Yandex services: Cars.ru – advertising service for the sale of automobiles. Tickets – cheap tickets for flights in Russia and abroad. Billboard -information about concerts, performances etc. Money-electronic money from Yandex.  Drive – cloud file storage from Yandex. Images -search for images in Yandex. And many other services that Yandex offers its local clients.
