Dead/ Broken link

A broken link or dead link is a link on a web page that no longer works because the website is encountering one or more of these reasons: an improper URL entered, the website removed the page without redirecting (causing a 404 error), The website permanently moved or no longer available, the user has a firewall that blocks the website etc. Search engines review links as a vote for a website’s quality.

Links to a website and links within it can affect where the website ranks, and therefore broken links should be treated.
